Digital Cameras – A few more Acronyms and Terms Explained.
Like all technology, digital cameras have built up a list of new terms, acronyms and definitions. When a photographer is in the market to purchase one of the many new digital cameras on the market it pays if they have done some homework to understand the terms used.
The LCD Screen is something that you would not find on film cameras but it is a feature of all digital cameras. It stands for liquid crystal display. It is used to compose and view digital photographs immediately after taking them.
The Macro facility on digital cameras is the same as that found on film cameras. It is a feature that allows digital cameras to take extreme close-ups of the subject.
The Megapixel is a unit of measurement in a digital photograph. A megapixel equals one million pixels and it is a standard measurement on all digital cameras. The higher the megapixel total the higher the picture resolution.
The Memory Card is a small electronic removable device that digital cameras use to store the photographs and video footage. Storage capacities range from 512 MB to 32 GB depending upon the memory card standard. There are several types of memory card but the most commonly used are the SDHC and Compact Flash memory card formats.
Digital Image Noise is the digital equivalent of graininess in a film photographic image. It can be caused by too little light or a defect in the electrical signal generated during the image capture process. Though its main cause is the amplification process used to increase the ISO rating.
